Frequently Asked Questions

What types of treatment do you offer?

We provide a full range of treatment options for patients of all ages! Our services include traditional metal and clear braces, as well as Invisalign® clear aligners for a more discreet approach to straightening teeth. Depending on your unique needs, we may also use specialized appliances such as expanders, habit appliances, or Forsus springs to help achieve the best results. We also work with general dentists to set patients up for crowns and veneers and also collaborate with oral surgeons on jaw surgery cases.

How much does treatment cost?

Orthodontic treatment is unique for every smile. Your treatment fee will depend on complexity and personalized treatment needs. After your initial consultation, our treatment coordinator will provide you with a personalized estimate and go over all available financing options. We’re happy to create flexible payment plans that fit within your family’s budget.

What is the best age to start orthodontic treatment?

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends an initial screening around age seven. While treatment isn’t always needed that early, it’s a great time to spot potential issues. The best age to begin orthodontic care truly depends on each individual’s needs- and it’s never too late to achieve a great smile! We treat children, teens, and adults.

How long will my treatment last?

Your treatment time will vary based on your unique needs. At your consultation, we’ll give you an estimated timeline so you’ll know what to expect from start to finish.

What foods should I avoid with braces?

A good rule of thumb: if you think it might break your bracket, skip it! Avoid sticky or chewy candies like gummy bears or taffy. It’s best to steer clear of popcorn and hard foods such as nuts, tortilla chips, and crusty breads. Limit sugary or acidic drinks like soda, lemonade, and sports drinks (even the diet versions), as they can make it easier for cavities to form. The good news? Sugar-free gum is fine, and chocolate is a great candy choice because it brushes off easily! Fresh fruits and veggies are encouraged- just cut them into bite-sized pieces and chew with your back teeth. We will review all foods to avoid and answer any questions when appliances are placed.

Will getting braces hurt?

We’ll be honest- you may feel some mild discomfort at the start of treatment, but it’s temporary! Getting your braces placed does not hurt, though you may notice some soreness for a few days afterward. Over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol can help, and warm saltwater rinses or mouthwashes such as Peroxyl can ease any irritation as your mouth adjusts.

Will I need a retainer after my treatment is finished?

Yes- retainers are the key to keeping your smile looking its best! You’ll need to wear a retainer for as long as you want your teeth to stay straight.
